Beer garden re-opens on City Hall Plaza; Quincy broker admits to stealing $1.8M from buyers

Visitors to City Hall can get themselves a cold one with the reopening of a temporary beer garden on the plaza outside.

Mayor Michelle Wu announced Wednesday that Franklin-based 67 Degrees Brewing, a Black woman- and veteran-owned business, will be operating the latest version of the beer garden.

“City Hall Plaza is a space to bring people together and build community,” Wu said. “I’m grateful to 67 Degrees Brewing and excited to welcome residents, workers and visitors to join us at the newly reopened Beer Garden at Fischer Park on City Hall Plaza.”

The beer garden will be open Wednesdays through Sundays from noon to 7 p.m.. into November, weather permitting.

“67 Degrees Brewing is very excited to make its way to Boston City Hall,” said Laury Lucien, a partner and legal advisor to 67 Degrees Brewing. “A number of our founders have their roots in Boston, and we can’t wait to pour our beers in the city.”

The city will be issuing a request for proposal later this fall for a long-term operator of the beer garden.

Quincy broker admits to stealing $1.8M from buyers

A Quincy real state broker who scammed dozens of people trying to buy homes out of $1.8 million by cashing deposits on fraud deals was sentenced to 2 ½ years in prison.

Michael P. Flavin, 39, of Quincy, cashed more than 60 deposit checks totaling about $1.8 million over a three-year period, according to federal prosecutors.

Flavin executed purchase and sale agreements and received deposit checks from or on behalf of the potential buyers, even though the owners of the properties had not agreed to sell to those particular buyers, prosecutors said.

A hearing will be held at a future date to determine restitution.
