Mattress Barn gets a new home

FAIRFIELD — Akin Mutla began Mattress Barn as a used furniture store in 2001. He decided to downsize after a few years and his store began focusing on mattresses, bedroom furniture and children’s bedding.
Mutla is a native of Turkey who came to the United States when he was 26. Becoming proficient in English was a major goal for him and he thought having a business was the best way to do so.
He has a degree in engineering, but chose the retail world instead.
Mattress Barn this year needed to find a new home because the company lost the lease on the old space. So he moved the store in March to a new site.
“The owner sold the other building,” Mutla said. “It was a shock. No one said anything to me about that happening.”
The new space is bigger at 11,000 square feet and is located near downtown at 649 Beck Ave.
“We still have great prices and plenty of stock to choose from,” Mutla said. “We also can deliver quickly.”
Mutla said he hopes his customers get a pleasant shopping experience that creates a long-lasting relationship.
“We try to keep our prices down to 2019 levels,” he said. “But furniture prices have skyrocketed.”
Mutla said he hopes customers find his prices the most reasonable around.
The store carries several brands of mattresses such as Rally, Chattam & Wells, MLily, Spring Air and Bed Tech.
“This is a family owned business, and we give the best value and better prices than many of our competitors,” Mutla said.
Hours remain the same as in the former space and the website has not changed.
