CHICO — For just the second time in the last 30 years, Silver Dollar Speedway is canceling its Fast Cars and Freedom event on Thursday.
Silver Dollar Fairgrounds is being used as an evacuation center and set-up area for fire personnel, Silver Dollar Speedway general manager Troy Hennig confirmed Wednesday.
“Cal Fire has set up a fire camp within the facility at the Silver Dollar Fairgrounds, and out of respect for the fireman on site, evacuates and all fire protecting personnel, the Fast Cars and Freedom event on July 4 at Silver Dollar Speedway has been cancelled,” Hennig said in a release on the Silver Dollar Speedway website.
For fans who have already bought tickets to the event, Silver Dollar Speedway said to allow 48 hours for refunds to be fully processed to the card used in the transaction.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to those who are affected by this fire,” the release said. “Thank you for your understanding.”
Silver Dollar Speedway will continue its racing schedule with the Oregon Speedweek Tyler Wolf Memorial on July 19. It will feature 360-winged sprint cars on the Sprint Car Challenge Tour and the hobby stocks divisions. Silver Dollar Speedway’s Gold Cup Race of Champions will be held August 21-24.
