Dan Reynolds shares the ‘strange’ way he got to know Minka Kelly before dating
Imagine Dragons frontman Dan Reynolds and Minka Kelly got to know each other through their respective works of art before they ever met face to face.
“She’s like, ‘Well, if you’re going to share your art, I can share something with you, but it’s very vulnerable for me. Do you want to do this or not?’” the “Radioactive” singer, 36, recalled to People Tuesday.
In 2022, fresh out of his split from ex-wife Aja Volkman, Reynolds was introduced to Kelly, 44, via a mutual friend. At the time, the actress was working across the pond in the UK.
Since they were long distance at first, Kelly offered to tell Reynolds about herself by sharing a copy of her memoir, “Tell Me Everything,” which chronicled her childhood trauma, homelessness and abortion.
“She was very scared for me to read the book because we hadn’t met, just as much as I was scared for her to hear a song that I’d written,” the “Demons” singer said.
“But we shared it and then it ended up being a really beautiful thing and brought us a lot closer. I think it helped us both kind of understand each other on a deeper level quite quickly.”
Reynolds now thinks of his and Kelly’s decision to be very vulnerable early on in their relationship as a “really strange” but “awesome way” to meet someone.
“I was hearing all her life stories from youth to now, and she had a really hard, colorful, beautiful life,” the “Whatever It Take” rocker said.
“Getting to read it all before you even meet somebody… I’ve never had that kind of introduction to someone.”
Nearly two years later, Reynolds and Kelly are still going strong. They are often seen out together on PDA-packed dates in Los Angeles, where they both reside.
Prior to her romance with Reynolds, the “Roommate” star was romantically linked to comedian Trevor Noah, but they broke up in May 2022.
Kelly has never walked down the aisle. Reynolds, for his part, was married to Volkman, 44, for 11 years and they share four kids together: daughters Arrow, 11, Gia and Coco, 7, and son Valentine, 4
