Kristaps Porzingis shares promising injury update after early exit

BOSTON — Despite the Celtics beating the Mavericks in Game 2 of the NBA Finals, C’s fans still held their breath late in the game. Big man Kristaps Porzingis appeared to tweak his right leg as he left the victory early with minutes still left on the clock.

But in talking postgame, Porzingis was upbeat and wasn’t too down about any potential injury.

“I feel good,” Porzingis said. “Feeling good. I don’t think it’s anything serious. But we’ll look at it tomorrow and go from there. But all good. I’ll be good.”

Porzingis left Sunday’s game with 4:40 left in the fourth quarter. It seemed like he tweaked his right leg once again, which was a natural cause for concern. Porzingis missed more than a month after he strained his calf against the Heat in the first round, forcing him to miss two entire playoffs series.

For now, there doesn’t seem to be anything serious with Porzingis’ leg after the early departure. The big man wasn’t sure exactly what happened as he couldn’t pinpoint if there was any injury. But regardless, Porzingis said they’ll do everything in their power to ensure he’s ready to play for the rest of the Finals.

The Celtics currently have a 2-0 series lead after beating the Mavericks in Game 2. Porzingis was again impactful as he finished with 12 points and four rebounds. The C’s will hope the big man is good to play in Game 3, set for 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in Dallas.

“Obviously something happened a little bit,” Porzingis said. “But I have a couple days again. Believe me, we will do everything we can to be back and moving well. … I’ll die out there if we need. Just kept going. Obviously I was a little limited, so smart thing was to get Al (Horford) back in there and close out the game.”
