The New York Mets placed infielder Jeff McNeil on the paternity list on Monday, to start the week.

He missed the pivotal series against the Atlanta Braves, but it was for a good reason: he was expecting a child with his wife.

Everything appears to be good on that front, so the Mets activated him from the paternity leave on Thursday to help them win some more games before the All-Star break.

According to New York Post’s Mike Puma, McNeil will be available for tonight’s game against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field.

“Jeff McNeil arrived in Chicago last night. His son Lucas arrived at 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday. … McNeil will be activated before tonight’s game at Wrigley,” Puma tweeted.

Congratulations are in order for McNeil and his family after welcoming a new member.

Now, it’s time to play ball.

A Worthy All-Star Selection

He was selected to the All-Star Game, so he probably won’t be around in New York anytime soon.

After a down 2021 campaign that saw his OPS drop to .679, McNeil is having a bounce-back year for the Mets.

Before Thursday’s game, he is hitting .311 with 38 runs, four home runs, 35 RBI, a couple of steals, and a solid .807 OPS.

He has been everything the Mets hoped for before the season: a capable offensive and defensive second baseman.

He has played some corner outfield, too, enhancing his contributions to the division-leading Mets.

He may not be among the league leaders in the power categories, but his excellent contact skills make him a worthy regular and a deserving All-Star.

The Mets hope he can keep dominating like he has done all year in a tough second half.
