FTSE 100 to Extend Losses on Weak U.S. Finish, Mixed Asia Trading

FTSE 100 Is Set to Drop After Mixed Asia Trading

0645 GMT – The FTSE 100 looks set to open about 44 points lower at 7432, according to IG futures data, after mixed trading in Asia and a lower close on Wall Street. Markets in Australia, Japan and South Korea fall, though mainland Chinese and Hong Kong stocks rise. The Dow closed 1.9% lower. Brent crude drops 0.3% to $122.74 a barrel. “The big market mover Friday is the U.S. CPI print for May,” Danske Bank analysts say in a note. “Key focus is on the monthly momentum, where expectations are for further increases in headline inflation while the monthly increase in core inflation should remain around 0.6%, equivalent to 6%-7% in annual terms, way above the Fed’s comfort zone.” (philip.waller@wsj.com)
