Truth about proposed National Association of REALTORS settlement

There are some misconceptions about a proposed National Association of REALTORS® settlement regarding brokerage commissions, a guest columnist writes.

As a child, I moved 19 times before I graduated high school. A house to call home was a concept that I didn’t understand until the ninth grade when I began spending time in the home of my best friend. A small, green frame house on a subdivided street in a busy area of Garland, Texas. It was a dream to me … a tattoo of stability, consistency and belonging upon my heart.

Housing is a basic human right, and homeownership is a dream for many. That is why I labor to build an environment where people can buy, sell or lease real property. It is also why I am troubled about the skewed reporting around the proposed National Association of REALTORS® settlement regarding brokerage commissions.
