The beginning of the 2024 NFL Draft went as many expected.
Then the surprises came, with the Falcons shockingly selecting QB Michael Penix Jr., the Vikings trading up to take J.J. McCarthy and the Broncos taking Bo Nix.
That’s six quarterbacks in the top 12 after the Bears took Caleb Williams, the Commanders took Jayden Daniels and the Patriots took Drake Maye.
The Giants got Daniel Jones a weapon at No. 6 in Malik Nabers, and the Jets got Aaron Rodgers protection with Olu Fashanu at No. 11.

The Raiders’ future at quarterback is a bit unsettled with Aidan O’Connell and Gardner Minshew in the fold.
But Las Vegas apparently wasn’t too keen on moving up to try to take one of the six quarterbacks that went over the first 12 picks before they took Georgia tight end Brock Bowers at No. 13.
Legette led South Carolina with 71 receptions and seven receiving TDs. His speed (4.39 40-yard dash), and route-running capabilities could help last year’s No. 1 overall pick Bryce Young take the next step in his career.
A bit of an off-the-board pick here. Pearsall led the team with 65 receptions and 965 receiving yards last season. With rumors that the 49ers were shopping Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel — this pick may ignite that fire again. Pearsall’s 42-inch vertical could help Brock Purdy in the red zone.
Wiggins’ speed (4.28 40-yard dash) is eye-popping. He led Clemson with nine pass breakups and had two INTs last season. Baltimore has a knack for drafting quality starters on defense, and Wiggins seems to fit the bill.
Guyton’s an offensive tackle with size (6’8”; 322 pounds) that missed time with injury last season. His frame and athleticism however, offer Dallas a nice project with high upside.
The rich get richer — or at least it seems that way after the Chiefs were able to nab the fastest player in the Draft: Xavier Worthy.
Patrick Mahomes, the best QB in the NFL, reacted positively to the move by posting a cool sunglasses face emoji on X.
Despite Worthy’s concerns about drops, one has to feel like this move will pan out for Kansas City.
The fastest player to ever run the 40-yard dash at the NFL scouting combine (4.21 seconds). He led the Longhorns with 75 receptions, 1,014 receiving yards and had five receiving TDs last season. Stop me if you’ve heard this before, but the fastest WR in the league paired with Patrick Mahomes?
The Chiefs traded up to grab the No. 28 pick from the Buffalo Bills.
He led the team with 14 TFL and 8.5 sacks last season. He played more snaps at edge, but his lack of athleticism could prevent him from playing outside at the NFL level. Still, his production is notable and could translate to success.
An athletic, 6-5, 313-pound center who can play everywhere. NFL teams continue to prioritize building through the trenches, making Barton a solid selection here.

A packers fan went viral on national TV after looking shell shocked with Green Bay’s selection of OT Jordan Morgran.
Any protection for Jordan Love seems reasonable — but this cheese head didn’t agree.
In the full video clip, the Packers fan is also being teased by division-rival Lions fans over the pick.
Nick Saban, the retired Alabama coach who is an analyst on the ABC broadcast of the first round of the NFL Draft, said that new Lions corner Terrion Arnold goes to his house and plays Rummikub with him and his wife, Miss Terry.
“This guy is a special guy,” Saban said of Arnold. “He’s got a great personality. Everybody loves him.”
