State Alpine Skiing: Duluth East Girls & Cook County/Silver Bay Boys Take 4th

Minneapolis Washburn would win the boys title and Minnetonka would win the girls title.

BIWABIK, Minn.- The alpine skiing season officially wrapped up on Tuesday as the state meet took place at Giants Ridge.

More than 170 participants and 16 teams in both boys and girls qualified for the annual event.

In the boys meet, Cook County/Silver Bay would place 4th with a score of 135.

Individually, Duluth East’s Erik Carlson would finish 24th with times of 39.45 and 41.84.

Behind him was Goshi Dimitrov of Cook County/Silver Bay. He took 32nd with times of 40.06 and 42.42.

Taking home the title of state champion was Irondale’s Anthony Petkov, as he finished with times of 36.76 and 38.93.

Minneapolis Washburn would win the team title with a score of 154.

Over in the girls meet, Duluth East took fourth with a score of 119.

The top standout locally was Hermantown’s Annabel Hanson. She finished in 11th with times of 41.30 and 42.58.

Finishing five spots behind her was Duluth East’s Elisabeth Bergan. Bergan had times of 42.11 and 43.60.

The individual state title would go to Vivien Philstrom of Blake. She had times of 40.16 and 40.50 to win the top prize.

Minnetonka won the team event with 168.
