Senator Jon Ossoff announces $11.8 million federal investment to a rural Georgia hospital.

RANDOLPH COUNTY, Ga (WRBL) — Senator Jon Ossoff held a press conference to announce a major federal investment to Randolph County Health Care.

On Wednesday, April 17 Senator Ossoff announced the historic $11.8 million dollar investment that was added to the recent bipartisan budget measure. This is the first step toward restoring health care access to Cuthbert and Randolph County.

The Southwest Georgia Regional Medical Center was the only accessible health care facility in Randolph County and surrounding areas.  This federal investment comes as a necessary tool for families in Georgia who are affected by the lack of access to healthcare in rural areas.

“As the parent of a young child, if a child is sick or injured and the nearest emergency room is an hour and a half or two hours away in Columbus or Albany, you know, that is potentially life or death. And it’s something that I know that Randolph County residents and folks in the surrounding counties fear.

Ossoff was joined by Steve Whatley, the Randolph County Hospital Commision Chairman who spoke about the federal investment coming to the county.

“Obviously the funds will be used in an equipment and to remodel a facility that is in bad need of upgrade. So, depending on the model that is sustainable, the money would be used for equipment and for remodeling the facility.”

Senator Ossoff told WRBL this investment is the first step to restoring healthcare access to rural areas and that he intends to remain proactive in his efforts.
