Charlotte airport shares sneak peek of Concourse A expansion

CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Charlotte-Douglas International Airport continues to make steady progress in Concourse A’s expansion.

The ongoing construction is part of CLT’s massive expansion project to accommodate thousands as one of the country’s busiest airports.

In the video released on Thursday, you can see dozens of workers, drywall, and a grid system that has been put in place for the ceiling. There are also multiple scissor lifts and pallet jacks, that are used to move heavy materials, spotted at the clean construction site.

Several workers were observed wearing safety harnesses, which need to be worn on the lifts.

In late February, Charlotte airport officials shared several photos of the Concourse A expansion. The 191,848-square-foot expansion will welcome passengers this fall.

With the expansion comes seven new Delta gates and three new common-use gates, known as Gates A30 through A39, officials said.

Other ongoing projects involving CLT airport include what officials are calling the ‘Destination District.‘ The development on airport-owned land will create a link between Interstate 85 to the north and the CLT airport to the south.

Officials said it will change the landscape at the airport’s I-85 entranceway. New commercial development will provide an economic boost for the area with a bustling landing place to work and play, just a short hop from the airport itself, officials said.
