Jesse Eisenberg Shares Exciting Update on Now You See Me 3
Now You See Me star Jesse Eisenberg has given fans a positive update about the upcoming third installment in the series.
Speaking with Collider at the South by Southwest film festival (SXSW), Eisenberg said that he hopes Now You See Me 3 will go into production “within the next six months.” Eisenberg also confirmed that he has read the script for the new film, describing the story as “really great.” The Academy Award nominee went on to say why he enjoys the magic-focused movies so much. “For me, the thing I love about it so much, having just read the script, it celebrates intelligence and it’s non-violent but exciting, and it’s so weird to see that because it sounds so obvious, and it sounds like that would be common, but it’s actually quite uncommon to have a movie that’s this franchise, this Hollywood-style movie that’s really just about teamwork and intelligence, rather than just violence.”
Now You See Me 2 Director Wanted to Call the Film ‘Now You Don’t’
Now You See Me 2 director Jon M. Chu explains the reason why the 2016 action film wasn’t called ‘Now You Don’t’ despite his hopes for the title.
The last installment of the Now You See Me franchise was released in 2016, earning over $300 million at the worldwide box office. Jon M. Chu steps down from the directing chair for the new sequel, and Ruben Fleischer takes his place to helm the movie. Fleischer is perhaps best known for directing Venom in 2018 and Uncharted in 2022. The first two installments had an ensemble cast that included Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Lizzy Caplan, Mark Ruffalo, Morgan Freeman, Isla Fisher, and Daniel Radcliffe.
Now You See Me 3 Will Be a “Reimagining”
Last year, Lionsgate described Now You See Me 3 as a “reimagining” of the series rather than a direct sequel, but that some familiar faces from the first two movies will return. Jesse Eisenberg is one of those cast members expected to return, and he appeared to confirm as much by saying that he’s read the new script. Woody Harrelson and Morgan Freeman are also reportedly coming back as well.
Now You See Me 3 Adds American Hustle Writer
America Hustle writer Eric Warren Singer will pen the latest installment in the Now You See Me franchise.
The first two Now You See Me movies centered on a group of magicians working for a shadowy group called The Eye, going against the government and becoming rich in the process. The films became known for their upbeat, exciting storylines and compelling twists.
Meanwhile, Eisenberg can be seen in his newest movie, Sasquatch Sunset, which will be released on April 12, 2024.
