ALGIERS- The Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, welcomed on Thursday a delegation from the Australian mining company “Lionsbridge,” led by its CEO, Brian Wesson.

According to a statement from the ministry, discussions focused on opportunities and possibilities for cooperation, investment, and partnership in the mining sector, particularly between the Algerian group Sonarem and Lionsbridge.

Both companies expressed their interest in launching partnership projects for the exploitation of mineral resources in Algeria, such as gold mining in Tirek and Amessmassa in the south of the country.

During the meeting, Arkab emphasized the economic and social significance of this project, which aligns with the development of the mining sector and the revival of mining activities, aiming for optimal exploitation of these resources across all parts of the country.

He also underscored the sector’s full support for partnership in all investment projects aimed at creating wealth and employment opportunities in Algeria.

Mr. Wesson provided a detailed presentation of Lionsbridge’s strategy for the sustainable, long-term development and exploitation of the gold mines in Tirek and Amessmassa in the Tamanrasset province. Additionally, he outlined plans for sustainable manufacturing projects in this field, emphasizing environmental protection, training, technology transfer, local product valorization, and wealth and job creation.

Lionsbridge, an Australian company based in Sydney, is regarded as one of the most significant international mining companies due to its extensive experience and projects spanning across Australia, Asia, the Pacific, Africa, Europe, and North America.
