58 brokers jailed during raid at DMCH

A mobile court jailed 58 brokers on various terms, who were arrested at Dhaka Medical College Hospital during a raid on Monday.

A team of the Rapid Action Battalion conducted the drive at DMCH between Monday morning and noon, and detained 65 brokers.

Later, they were produced before the mobile court and the court jailed 58 brokers among the detained.

RAB-3 commanding officer lieutenant colonel Arif Mohiuddin Ahmed confirmed the matter during a press briefing at DMCH in the afternoon.

‘A syndicate had been formed in DMCH, which charged money from patients. The health minister Samanta Lal Sen has directed to take action against the syndicate. The National Security Intelligence assists RAB with information,’ said the RAB official.

He said that the mobile court found the detained people’s involvement in sending patients to various expensive private hospitals in the capital for receiving commissions and extorting money through harassment for various tasks, including admitting patients to DMCH.

‘There are at least 200 brokers only at DMCH. The raid will be continued at every public hospital to ensure that hospitals are brokers free’, he added.

Mohiuddin Ahmed also said that RAB had zero-tolerance against brokers and the action would be taken as per evidence against whoever involved in these groups.
