Rep. Joe Wilson shares 2024 agenda, gives thoughts on presidential race

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO) — Representative Joe Wilson laid out his 2024 agenda during a press conference at his office in West Columbia Monday afternoon.

As he continues to represent District Two in South Carolina, Wilson says his goals for the new year include the continued push for job creation, and protecting SC’s “Right to Work” laws.

On a national level, after returning from a visit to Eagle Pass, Texas last week, Wilson believes securing the border is a must.

“And it was very revealing, sadly, that is there is no border. We have an invasion of our country. And we want to welcome legal aliens to come here, but illegal aliens truly are a threat to the security of the American people,” he says.

Other borders, he believes, must also remain secure through America’s support of Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan.

“We need to be standing together with our allies, to stand together for peace through strength. And indeed we should be deterring the Chinese communist party’s ability to invade Taiwan, and they all relate. America. Israel. Ukraine. Taiwan. And, that is, borders need to be maintained,” Wilson says.

Wilson says he will also continue the fight for energy independence, but believes the Biden Administration stands in the way.

“The house has voted for energy independence but sadly, this administration has a war on fossil fuels. The immediate consequence to all of us is that gasoline prices went up a dollar, per gallon. And soon, possibly more, if we don’t have energy independence,” he says.

Regarding the race for the White House, Wilson is still backing former President Donald Trump, citing job creation and a low unemployment rate.

But should former Governor Nikki Haley receive the nomination, Wilson says he would still be “thrilled,” calling Haley and Senator Tim Scott “superstars.”

“I had the opportunity to visit with her in New York. She represented America so well as our Ambassador to the United Nations, Donald Trump made a great selection. And she was strong standing up for Israel, opposing Putin. Opposing the Chinese communist party, and hey, she’s got a bright future. I believe Donald Trump will be the Republican nominee, but I also believe that we can all look to Nikki Haley being involved in a new administration,” Wilson says.

The Congressman returns to Washington, D.C. on Tuesday, with the House of Representatives back in session on Wednesday.
