Aaron Rodgers Denies He’s Had Talks About Jets Trading for Raiders’ Davante Adams
New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers denied that he’s had talks with the team about trading for his ex-Green Bay Packers teammate and current Las Vegas Raiders star Davante Adams during his latest Pat McAfee Show appearance.
“Asked if he’s had conversations about the Jets trading for Adams, Rodgers said, ‘Absolutely none,'” ESPN’s Rich Cimini noted.
Rodgers’ comments on the Adams situation begin at the 37-second mark.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported in November that the Jets inquired about trading for Adams before the trade deadline but were shut down. However, a source told Schefter that the team is expected to broach that topic again this offseason.
“That will happen,” a source told Schefter. “I think so.”
The Adams-Jets talk has been sparked after Jets superstar wideout Garrett Wilson changed his jersey number from No. 17 to No. 5. Adams has worn No. 17 for his entire NFL career with the Packers and Raiders.
For now, though, Adams remains a member of the Silver and Black. He signed a five-year, $140 million deal with the team through 2026, so he’s under contract with the team for three more seasons.
Adams landed in Vegas partially because of his desire to play with his ex-Fresno State teammate, quarterback Derek Carr. However, the Raiders parted ways with Carr after the 2022 season.
But things are looking up in Vegas after a strong ending to the season buoyed by a 5-4 finish to the season after a 3-5 start. Interim head coach Antonio Pierce led the team in the back half of the year after the firing of head coach Josh McDaniels, and its clear his leadership had a positive impact on the team.
If he stays aboard, then the good vibes could keep rolling into 2024. And if that’s the case, then why trade Adams, who just had another productive year (103 catches, 1,114 yards, eight touchdowns)? Furthermore, why would Adams want to leave?
Ultimately, the Jets may be interested, but Adams is still under contract with a team that has positive momentum rolling into 2024. A move to Gang Green could be a lot easier said than done.
